Le Court wins in Britain as Wiebes takes four stages

Kim Le Court-Pienaar won the Tour of Britain Women after safely defending her lead on the final 123.8-kilometre stage around Royal Leamington Spa. The Mauritian finished the race 19 seconds ahead of Lorena Wiebes and 24 seconds ahead of Liane Lippert.

Wiebes won the final sprint for her fourth victory in five stages. The peloton caught Eva van Agt, Alice Towers and Sara Martín only 1.3 kilometres from the finish, before the SD Worx-Protime rider accelerated from Chiara Consonni's wheel and beat Lara Gillespie by several bike lengths.

The ten-second bonus moved Wiebes above Lippert into second overall, but Le Court-Pienaar remained out of reach. The AG Insurance-Soudal rider had built her decisive advantage by attacking 2.5 kilometres from the summit finish on The Great Orme and then controlled the final two days.
